Talking Fall & Winter

An emphasis on texture, volume and drape - Berg & Berg’s fall & winter collection pairs sober colour choices with English flannel, Italian corduroy, wool, cashmere and cotton.
Talking Fall & Winter

As fall sets in for real, we sit down with Berg & Berg Creative Director Andreas Larsson in his home office in Stockholm’s Kungsholmen district to discuss the fall/winter collection. Blues and greys, whites and browns, Larsson paints fall with a restrained palette.

- I am personally very fond of monochrome looks in navy, grey or even white during fall and winter. However, there is always also room for classic, but toned down autumnal colour combinations, like pairing dark brown corduroys with a cream turtleneck, like I am today, Larsson says.

From a Scandinavian perspective it's easy to associate fall with heavy fabrics, but many of our customers will not experience winter chill for many months, if at all. What Larsson has strived to achieve this season is a balance between lighter cloths and yarns wearable on mild fall days and heavier fabrics for real, Northern European winter weather.

- This season's fresco tailoring and trousers are good examples. As a high twist, breathable wool, Hardy Minnis Fresco is a delight to wear in warm weather, however, the 340 g Fresco we have chosen to work with transfers very well into fall and early spring as well. In some climates it could be seen as a four season quality, up north maybe three seasons, Larsson says.

In addition to Fresco, Berg & Berg trousers will be available in our Japanese cotton twill as well as in a 100% cotton corduroy and a woolen flannel, developed exclusively for Berg & Berg.

- We have developed our “dream flannel” cloth, woven in England. A rich, compact woolen flannel with beautiful colour variation, fuzzy texture, classic look and soft hand. A true English flannel cloth that comes in navy, grey, charcoal, sand and black.

For many Berg & Berg customers the overcoats and tailoring are the fall and winter highlights. This season our outerwear favorites are back, crafted from English cloths - plains, herringbones and subtle checks.

- Our outerwear has become an important part of our fall/winter line up. Nisse returns with a slightly longer belt, while Nicolas has been recut to become Noa, with an improved look and fit and a somewhat more generously cut sleeve. The fabrics are true English overcoating cloths, but not too heavy to wear on mild winter days. A Buffalo plaid overshirt will also be launched and will work well as a layering piece under a Nisse raglan during the coldest days.

Fresco tailoring will soon be followed by winter fabrics, flannel as well as checked and heathered tweeds. There will also be a wide range of both basic and seasonal shirts, classic and sporty knitwear as well as scarves, belts, ties, socks and dad caps.

- We will go live with the next fall winter drop next week. I look forward to showing our customers the new buttonless merino/cashmere polo, corduroy trousers as well as some great seasonal shirts in corduroy and flannel checks, Larsson says.
