Fabric Guide: Merino/Cashmere

The softness of cashmere, but the durability of wool. For all our knitted items this season we have chosen a soft, but substantial blend of merino and cashmere.

“The touch of cashmere, but the durability of wool. That pretty much sums up this yarn for me,” Andreas Larsson, creative director of Berg & Berg, says.

“This yarn produces great everyday garments that become mainstays of the winter wardrobe. It works well both for heavier items and layering pieces and is soft enough to be worn directly on the skin,” he says.

This season the yarn will be used for our popular Bernhard turtleneck, the classic Billy polo and a new mid weight round neck model, Ben. This model will arrive in a range of brighter colours such as a vibrant red, a lemony yellow and Tintin-ish blue. In addition we also use the yarn for our knitted hats and fingerless gloves.

The spinner is an Italian company, based in the region of Emilia-Romagna, that has been in business for 130 years. The same family has owned the business since 1890, now the fifth generation is leading the company.

Although steeped in history, the spinner has a modern view on environmental and animal welfare issues.

“The company has the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certification which ensures that only wool from farms managed according to strict animal welfare rules are used and that environmental considerations are prioritized in production,” Larsson says.
